After making the Salafis their second-biggest party, do Egyptians deserve democracy?

Question by : After making the Salafis their second-biggest party, do Egyptians deserve democracy?
Let’s take a brief look at the Salafi platform.

1. Attack secularism as kufr.
2. Ban women and Christians (50 million Egyptians) from the presidency.
3. Segregate men and women in school, the workplace, the street (like in Iran and Saudi Arabia).
4. Ban all interest in banks.
5. Full-fledged medieval Islamic punishments (e.g. cut off the hand of a thief).
6. Ban representations of women in art, sculpture, posters, films, etc., where they show their bodies or hair.
7. Ban women from driving.
8. Television censorship.
9. Democracy is only Islamic at the stage where it brings Islamists into power. Afterward, democracy (the people’s own choice of ruling party and law) is un-Islamic, because it puts people’s government into their hands instead of God’s

This is now the second-biggest party in parliament.

Do tens of millions of impoverished, illiterate, utterly politically ignorant rural Egyptian peasants, whose way of life hasn’t changed in a thousand years, deserve the right to vote?

‘They offered a simple message that many voters found easier to understand than the platforms of liberal parties’. HA HA HA. Too stupid to understand the basics of the basics of anything political or economic. They can’t process complicated national goals. Just throw in one word – Allah – and they vote for you.

Why don’t Egyptians understand one simple thing:
This Revolution was started by liberal activists with political and economic grievances.
Islamists were newcomers to the Revolution, not originators.
Those liberal activists, encompassed in the Egyptian Bloc, got a miserable 13 per cent of the vote, and will have absolutely no ability to make any changes on their own.
Therefore, the Revolution veered completely away from its original goals, and the new democracy is something completely different from what started the Revolution.
Egypt is now in a whole new ball game, and far from fixing the reasons that led to the Revolution in February, it will only make everything worse. It will take us to a much worse economic and social situation than was in this country in February. The people who UNDERSTAND what Egypt needs – have been left without power.
