Is it possible to bring a katana (Japanese Sword) from Japan to America?
Question by Klakman: Is it possible to bring a katana (Japanese Sword) from Japan to America?
I’m going to Japan this summer and I thought it would be cool to get a katana (Japanese Sword). Is it possible to take one on a plane in your suitcase? Please Respond!

My brother-in-law was stationed there a couple years ago and I think he had to ship his.

You can put just about anything in checked baggage. However, if I were you, I would ship it home. You do NOT want to get it lifted out of your suitcase by baggage handlers; it’s happening more and more here at Sea-Tac, and I’m sure this isn’t the only place.
I would contact the National Passport Information Center..

Also check with yoru airline for their procedures on this issue.
I hope this helps…
Most things like the sword you want to bring back are fine as long as it’s in your check-in luggage, and depending on the airline you may have to declare it at the check-in counter. No way in the world will you be able carry it on the plane inside the passenger cabin, the above answer that suggested shipping it home is something you might want to consider.
As long as it is in your checked luggage, you should have no problem. Just let the ticket agent know when you check-in. Just a little fyi.
Snickers…!
You better learn some karate and jiu-jitsu too when numerous local and federal police tackle and pile on top of you!
Take some precautions, ask around about the rules regarding such items. If possible, just buy it in America!
just check it in your luggage
