I found one online and was about to buy it but is it illegal in california? I don’t want to carry it. I want to buy it and hang it on my wall.

    Flail is a stick chain and ball/spiky thing at the end. and if you just had it in your house I am sure you could get away with it just don’t walk around outside with it.

    Better yet mount it to your wall so if a cop did come by your house you could point out how hard it would be to get at and say its art.

    I cannot find any judicial authority on this, but it is quite possible that a flail would come within the definition of a “slungshot,” which is a metal weight on the end of a rope. Those are illegal to possess under Pen C 12020. However, it is also quite probable that a flail is an “arm” within the meaning of the Second Amendment, making the scope of permissible state regulation very problematic at the moment although possession in the home would seem to be constitutionally protected.

    Bottom line: I don’t think anybody can give you a clear answer right now.
