Query by Mephisto: How do i preserve a katana from falling out the sheath?
I have a katana and just lately the match has turn into loose. If I tilt the blade ahead it falls out. Is there a resolve I can do myself that will permit that snug suit for the blade I desire? I just do not want to threat the blade falling out now. Many thanks.

Regardless of how tight the sword is in the saya, your thumb should always be on the tsuba to secure the blade in the saya (that is Iaido 101). Doing that will eliminate any risk of the blade falling out.
In terms of how to make the koiguchi a little tighter, one thing that we do is take chop stick and shave off a very slim piece of the wood (it only needs to be about 1/2 inch long) and then glue it into the ha side of the koiguchi. By using slim pieces, you can gradually add additional layers until you get to the desired tightness. This will save you $ 500 to get a custom saya fitted for your katana.

Don’t have a chop stick you can use a tooth pick. Be sure to clean the area where you will glue the tooth pick well and use super glue. Be neat, be careful. If this is your practice sword it should be lose a little.
If you are wearing the sword you should keep your left thumb on teh tsuba at all times, not only in case it falls out but to stop an enemy taking your sword.
The best way to tighten your Koicuchi is to invest in a very this veneer of wood to glue to the mouth of the saya, but you have to be very careful that you do not use to thick a piece or you will not get your sword back into the saya.
If your sword starts falling out, you need to shim the koiguchi (opening of the scabbard). Paul Chen sword cleaning kits come with a tiny piece of wood that you shape to the necessary size/wide and fit into the koiguchi with wood glue.
The koiguchi should be tight around the habaki (blade collar) to disallow falling out of the saya (scabbard).
You need to put the wood shims all around the inside evenly to ensure that the blade will fit into the saya right without shaving off the insides of the scabbard.
But, for my iaito the koiguchi is very loose, how I prevent the sword from falling out is ensuring proper alignment and tying of my hakama and grasping the tsuba (handguard) when I grab the saya. If you bow or perform any movements where you are not keeping the scabbard level and parallel to the ground, you could end up hurting yourself.
