Playa de Sword (Sword Beach), es el nombre en clave que recibió uno de los tramos de costa durante el Desembarco de Normandía. Esta playa está situada entre las poblaciones de Ouistreham y Saint Aubin sur Mer. Es la más oriental de las playas, situada aproximadamente a 15 km de Caen, en Normandía (Francia).
El asalto a la playa “Sword” comenzó aproximadamente a las 03:00 horas con un bombardeo aéreo de las defensas alemanas costeras y sitios de artillería. El bombardeo naval comenzó unas horas mas tarde. A las 07:thirty horas las primeras unidades alcanzaron la playa. Estos eran los tanques DD del 13ºº de Húsares seguidos cerradamente de la 8ª Brigada de infantería.
En la playa “Sword”, la infantería normal británica puso pie en tierra con un mínimo índice de victimas. Habían avanzado aproximadamente eight kms hacia el final del día, pero habían fallado en realizar algunos ambiciosos objetivos ordenados por Montgomery. En particular, Caen, un objetivo principal que todavía estaba en manos alemanas hacia el closing del Día-D.
La 1ª Brigada del Servicio Especial, bajo el mando del General de Brigada Lord Lovat desembarco en la segunda oleada conducida por el Comando Nº 4 con las dos primeras tropas francesas junto a ellos. El primer desembarco de la 1ª Brigada del Servicio Especial se hizo famosa por haber sido conducido por el gaitero Invoice Millin. Los británicos y franceses del Comando Nº 4 tuvieron objetivos separados en Ouistreham los franceses un blocao y el Casino y los británicos dos baterías que bloqueaban la playa.
El blocao se demostró demasiado fuerte para el PIAT británico, pero el Casino de la ciudad fue tomado con la ayuda de un carro “Centauro”. Los comandos británicos alcanzaron las baterías para darse cuenta de que habían sido desmontadas de sus armas, retirándose de Ouistreham para unirse a otras unidades de su brigada (3,6,45) moviéndose hacia el interior para unirse con la 6ª División Aerotransportada.
