Armour was not cumbersome;it was made to measure,weighed less than the weapons and kit carried by a modern infantryman,and this weight was better distributed – a fit man was able to turn a somersault in full plate armour.

Samurai of the late 16th century almost invariably fought on foot, so I’d take the knight to win every time. His primary weapon is an 18 feet long steel tipped lance which experienced knights could handle with a high level of dexterity.The Samurai is going to get skewered, as his arrows aren’t going to penetrate the knight’s armour (specially designed to deflect missiles by making them glance off fluted and angled surfaces,nor the armour of the knight’s horse for the same reason.Given the advantage in reach the lance gives the knight,the samurai is going to be unable to use his sword before getting skewered.

The Samurai wins because of pin point accuracy with a bow and arrow and is faster. He takes out the knight’s horse then has the advantage of better weapons, mobility, and training.
