I’m interested in examining different ancient/medieval translations in literal and/or conceptual comparisons. I’m not interesting in doing Chaucer. Of course there’s Beowulf, but I’d like to hear suggestions of other poems, essays, stories, etc.that will render an interesting critique of the different interpretations, the translators’ intentions, whether they stay true to the original and how accessible they are to the readers, etc. I’m interested inMiddle English, French, Latin, Ancient Greek. But anything really.

Chaucer would be a primary source on Medieval England. Good luck with that. There are many excellent texts on those subjects, but the primary sources take some dedication. There are numerous Roman texts that are studied in Latin today and are uncommitted in English. A great book from about the 3d or 4th century in Rome is the novel the Golden Ass. It’s well written and funny. It would probably be R rated if made into a movie.Edit: the book cited is the Golden A $ $
