Question by Aaron: What are the similarities in between modern and medieval punishments?
Michel Foucault drew comparisons amongst torture methods of medieval Europe and the contemporary U.S. criminal justice program, saying that the contemporary methods still quantity to torture. Does anyone else see similarities between the two?

equally make you go crazy and make you feel like a canine. in our criminal justice program they completed relly look at correcting us or aiding us modify our approaches but far more seem at how to shame us and make our title search poor.

alot of the times if you go to jail for something minuscule like not paying court service fees, no one particular in the organization woulds will want you anymore…

The knights with their squires, and chargers (horses), and armor, etc. ended up widespread medieval heroes. Today, wizards/Druids can also be possibly heroes or villains.

Question by Crispin: What was the medieval equilvalent of modern day chain of command?
now days there are platoons and squads and such, but what where those groups called back in the medieval days? especially groupings of archers , 4-10, 20-60 and so on? Thanks!

The main tactical unit was the lance – a mounted knight or man-at-arms and his immediate retainers, and could be anything from 4 to 10 men depending on the army and period.

In theory overall command was exefcised by the king if present, or a senior noble.The Constable was responsible for mustering and organizing an army for a campaign, and commanded in the absence of the king. However in truth, there was no real chain of command,as each knight and noble regarded himself as the equal of any other, and fame and glory was gained by feats of arms in the field, so an individual was always keen to get into combat, whatever orders from higher up might say. Further, a lack of strong central authority meant that individual lords often claimed an independent right of appearance for, or withdrawal from,any given battle or campaign, and fierce resistance to a decree from Charles V of France banning this during the Hundred Years War meant little changed.

Infantry were organized in units of 25-30 men, but in most Medieval armies these were just feudal levies. Longbowmen in English armies were organized in companies, the basic subunit being 8 men. A company of archers could consist of any multiple of 8, depending on whose retinue they were a part of; 64-128 was the most common size.
